Default TUNE UP..

I have a 01 gt with 13000 miles on it .My question is~DO 4.6 motors need a tune up?I keep reading about new high performance spark plugs.Has anyone done this ?Is there any noticable difference in performance?I'm always noticing a knocking/pinging noise and i 'm wondering if theres a problem or if i just need a tune up!

I change my plugs every 15k miles. I was changing at 20k miles, but the performance difference was too large before/after plugs, so I shortened the interval.

Pinging and knocking can be a sign of carbon buildup in the cylinders, which will raise the CR and introduce hotspots. Do you rev your engine very high once in a while?

what gas are you running? try a higher octane and see if the noise goes away. are you sure it's not valve train/ fuel injector noise?

I mean, do you run to redline while running through the gears? ie, make the engine work a little. Engines really don't like to be lugged around below 2k rpm...especially these mod motors. They need to rev to work properly.
