I agree with you but what other choices do I have? Buying a new one for $400+?
I had the same problem. The picture you have should help alot. When mine were off calibration, I looked at my picture, started the car and put the needles back to the running position. The speedo was the hardest one. Therefore, I drove around with the cover off the cluster until I found one of those radars the cops have on the streets sometimes that tell you how fast your going. When I found one, thats when I corrected the speedo. Now everything is normal.

When I messed mine up (damaged them, a couple of the needles were WAY too hard to get off... they were just not accurate any more even if I would line them up properly, when they would change they would not be correct), I ended up going to eBay and getting a cluster from a 99 cobra [8D] was $140 I think, works perfectly, white faced, it was just the look I was going for in the first place.

Do what sprostang said. Take the clear cover off and then reinstall the cluster into the dash with just 2 screws. Start the engine and reinstall the needles for oil and battery close to the right of the gauge. Put the water needle at the center of the gauge when the engine is at normal operating temp.. Do it this way because the gauges aren't really gauges but are glorified idiot lights. The speedo can be done a couple ways. Most acurate is to drive the car with a handheld GPS with you and keeping moving the needle to match the GPS. Took me about 4-5 times to get it exact, which was closer then it come from Ford. The tach is problematic because you will need a tach driver and another know good tach to compare to. Another way is if your car was idleing correctly B4 all this and you remember what that RPM was you can put the needle on at that RPM with the car at idle and you will be close enough. I've been though this on more then one car and it works. The oringinal gauges are calibrated when they are built with an electronic tester to the reference marks on the gauges and I don't think Ford dealers have one so they would probally do it like you can but charge a bit more then you doing it. If you don't have a GPS you can get another car to pace you but if that speedo is off so will yours be. The radar idea works if you can find one that is set up. Good luck, it's pretty simple.

If the diagnostics function works that is the way to go. Looks made for his problem. I'll have to try it sometime just for grins.
