gutting the cat.
I am planning on gutting the cat. on my 2000 GT, I already have found the o2 bypass sensors so the "check engine" light doesnt come on. is this a wise move, and what can i expect to get out of it?

RE: gutting the cat.
Most people that I have heard of doing this is jsut taking it off and beating the crap out of the inside of it with a long screwdriver etc.. If that works or not I have no idea but they say it does...

uhhhh have fun gutting the cats on these... there are 2 in line on each side on the 99-04s and 3 in line on each side on the 96-98s
you are honestly better off just buying an o/r H or o/r X pipe for your time spent on it, most are usually under $200. I just picked one up (on way via UPS) for $90 to my door

Okay, time for some hillbilly mechanic work!
Get a length of rebar and drive that sucker thru the cats with a sledge hammer. Then, pour some motor oil in the cats and use a torch to light the oil. Use the torch to keep the oil burning until it's all gone. Allow to cool and bolt the mid pipe back on.
Now THAT'S the hillbilly way of doin' thangs!
Or...
Take monkeydude's advice and just buy a mid pipe. The catted versions flow so well that you probably won't notice and the don't have the raspy sound of the O/R versions.
