Default GETTING NEW WHEELS NEED INSIGHT

Okay guys, I have a 96 blk GT and I REALLY need wheels and tires. I have one wheel thats chipped and keeps leaking air. So now that I have 2 jobs now I was thinking about getting some........my question is that what are the PROS and CONS to going with say 18 x 10.5 in the rear and 18 x 9 in the front?

I have 17 x 8s now with 245/45s which are probably small to you guys, but at first I was going to go with 17 x 9s in the rear and keep them the same in the front. Then I got on here and hear how wide and big you guys were going and I thought I would be [sm=lame.gif] for getting 17s I'm sure 18s would look better. My question is that having 10.5s in the back would cause you to HAVE to use wheel spacers, right? and if you had 18 x 9s in the front would that cause any clearance issues where you need to get your suspension modded before they go on?

I would love to get facts and opinions from everyone cause I have no clue.

Your first problem is the 18x10.5. They dont make a rim in that size, it is 18x10. If you go with 18s, tires are really REALLY hard on the wallet. The car will handle a hundred times better with the stiffer sidewall though. Get some 18 inch Cobras or the 03 Cobra wheels. Hope I helped a little.

Okay I went to the 1010 tire site and did some comparing. So what I am understanding is that the higher the tread width (i.e. 315) the more revs it will take your car to go and if you increase the profile (i.e. 35) the fewer revs it will take the car which will make you go faster than you think. I want a rim that will fill up that wheel well, give me good handling, and not give me bad kickbacks like slowing me down and making it hard on my brakes.

Does 255/40/17(front) and 275/40/17(rear) with wheel sizes of 17 x 9 and 17 by 10.5 sound like it would do me good?

Well I know a guy with a 98GT that ran a 14 flat in the 1/4 mile. He put 18x10 deep dish fr500 wheels with 285's I think on the rear and 245's or 55's on the front. After that he went to the track he ran a 15.2 Needless to say, he sold the rims pretty quick after that. So just make sure you dont get any heavy *** wheels.

Well I wanted a wheel that you can't go wrong with like maybe Cobra R, SVT, Saleen, Cobra. I just wanted to handle good and look not too meaty and not to skinny. Like I like my women [sm=drooldude.gif]

Thanx Mike, but I'm not a fan of the bullit wheels.......I love pretty much any other mustang wheels though. Well I guess to me the bullitts only look good on 99 - 04 stangs.

I have 17s now with 245/45s. If I got 18 x 9 and 18 x 10/10.5. Would 255/40 and 275/40s fit?
