before making it faster, make it handle better! Sub-frame connectors and aftermarket rear control arms are always my first 2 mods to ANY 79+ Mustang
Oh thats so boring! Its the guys first Stang, let em get more power first.
improved handling is boring? tell that to Maximum Motorsports! they took a stock 5.0 with about 200,000 miles on it and made it run through a Road and Track slolum faster than any other Mustang, including Saleen....yeah, that's boring
Yea, it sure is.

I'm pretty sure that almost all the people here didnt look at a mustang and say, "oh man I wonder how good I can get that car to handle" I know I sure as hell didnt.

I would definately get gears first. 4.10's, IMO. Then get a cat-back (MAC is good and cheaper than most) for sound. Maybe later when you get another couple hundred, get a short throw shifter, like MGW or Steeda.

I'd go for a full exhaust system if possible.

well, to approach the original question..

if youve got 1K to spend,,, its up to you..

Gears+Install+Bearing Kit+Recall should run you around 600 or so.. then you could save the 400 for exhaust...

OR.. do what i did..

first i bought midpipe/catback and then gears..

"is borla worth it"
no catback is worth the price if youre looking at performance...350+ for 3-5 HP??? thats insane...

If you want somethign that is VERY uncommon on the street, then Borla, specifically the Stingers are a good choice. I have them with an o/r H and they are VERY loud and have an incredibly clean sound with no rasp until WOT (like all o/r combo's)

i'l post clips if youre interested

For sound, I'd go with Flowmaster, then MAC. Borla and Bassani doesn't seem to have that "Muscle Car" sound in my opinion.

With only a grand to spend, I would go with an SLP LM1 catback. You can get it for $404.95 on mustang tuning.com. It's a damn good exhaust for a decent price. But you would eventually want to get an X-pipe and possibly headers. I would hold off on the headers until you get a power adder. Then go with the gears. Anywhere from 3.73-4.10. You would also want to look into the Steeda pullys as well. That will free up some horses. Don't forget the TB and CAI. But with a grand, you arn't going to be able to get to much. I've got almost $5000 in mine and there is still a lot of stuff that I don't have.

If you only got a grand then I'd go for gears. i picked up ford racing 3.73 gears for 150 bucks and it cost about 250 at a local shop to have them installed and i;ve never had a problem with them. but i wish i would have gone 4.10's because 3.73 isnt that different from the stock 3.27's and your gas wont be that much of a difference. trust me. with stock gears 70 mph was about 2000 rpm now its like 2300 really not that big of a difference. and use the rest on a diablosport its definitely worth it

I put 3.73 on my car and a diablosport tuner. and with slicks went 13.3 @ 103 mph
Thats pretty impressive for a close to stock car.and it only run me about 400$ for the gears(installed) and 350 for the tuner.
It definitely put a smile on my face. (The slicks were off my buddy's 92 gt )
