I think it's because ford wanted to.... and since the companies necks are on the line I trust they know what they are doing as far as marketing and performance... espessially in these times with the big 3...

A V-6 is a reasonably priced nice looking car...
A GT is a fast moddable reasonably priced car (99-04 GT = LT1) (05+ GT = LS1) [notice the equals sign]
A Cobra is a very fast vette eater that could "hang" with a ZO6 and cost about 30K less in 03-04 (03-04 cobra = 98-04 vette)
not to mention Roush and Saleen do their part to increase attention/sales
all in all there is a stang for everyone, and if you want to smoke an LS1... simple get a cobra or a stage 3
