Default GT vs SS/Z28/Trans Am's<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I asked once before why Ford would make such a weak GT when the competition(SS, Z28, and TA's) were so much more powerful(HP and Tq. that is). The response I got was......."Thats why Ford makes Mach 1's and Cobras to compete with those cars". Well my question is why do they even make a GT if it is so easily blown away by the competition??? Is it to have a happy medium between v6 power and v8 power??? Just curious, thanks.

Always thought that myself. Although I would compare the SS to Cobra.

I am sure it was a numbers game. I am sure it is easier to sell a ton of reasonably priced gt's over the cost of a cobra or mach. You still get a sports car the has some power without having to pay over 30 grand to get it.

Because they understand marketing, at least in this area. Obviously Chevy doesn't since none of the competitors are around despite their increased power. Even if people can't afford the special edition Mustangs, they will create attention and sell more of the lesser models. You can get the Mustang however you like, unlike the 'Maro where it's either the ??? hp V6 or 300 hp v8.

The 05 + only have those two models, for now, but that is just another element. They space the special models out and rotate the nameplates so there is always something new.

I think that Ford also didn't see the need for a higher horse GT given that the Mustang outsold the Camaro and Firebird combined. That and they didn't have the money to invest in the Mustang.

i think the main reason is so people with not alot of money could afford a v-8 muscle car. its practical and yet has power. not everyone can afford a 30k dollar car. also i cant remember who stopped their prodution in 2002 of the muscle car......i just cant remember.

All your buying is a body with a sound box under the hood. Stock Mustang GTs are slow.
