Default Headers Long Tube or Shorties???????

I would like to know what the difference in long tube headers versus shorty headers? Is there an advantage to one of them does one of them give you more hp or a better sound? And what brand is a good one without breaking the bank?

on an 01 mustang, don't even consider shorties. They might, if your lucky, give you 5 hp over stock. Longtubes are pretty much a 20 - 25+ hp difference. Lotsa work though. Longtubes carry each individual exhaust tube all the way down to the collector, almost 3 feet usually. Shorties carry them like 2 inches, right into each other. Much better sound from the longtubes as well, but plan on spending 8-10 hours under the car putting them in though.

and also, get ceramic coated if you can afford it...cuts way down on heat, plus they will last longer and look better longer

yea the coating on my Mac longtubes really sucks, but they were cheap (got em used with the prochamber midpipe for $425.00 on ebay), so I can't complain. They work flawlessley and I can tell you I got a 30+ hp gain between the two.

yeah long tubes own shorties. dont listen to any of the guys who say mm&ff did a test on long tubes and shorties, and shorties did just as good as the long tubes. they wont be lying, but mm&ff did the test open headers. i lost all respect for them when they did the test that way.

I would be interested in where you get the 25 hp difference. Is there an article that can show that? I have read that shorties are good for about 10 hp and long tubes about 20, hopefully you can document that info as I am making the same decision.
