what a hassle getting my gears installed
well today i drove around all morning trying to find a shop that will install 410 gears and no one will touch the rear end. i found 2 places. one quoted me 400 bucks and the other was 350 bucks. i have to call one place and see how much they charge to install them. they will do it but the owner has to give me me quote. if all else fails im just gonna pay 350 bucks. i went to at least 10 shops and no one will do it, why is that???

just be glad some ******* didn't say he could do it only for you to find out the next day that he couldn't. I would think any transmission/rear end shop could do it... it's not like it's a mustang-specific process.

well i just got a call back from a shop locally and they are gonna do the install for me on tuesday for 325. that is with me bringing the gears. i guess thats not too bad of a price. and now i am ordering some drag radials i am going with m/t et streets. should i just get 275/40/17s and use them as my regular tires or get a 15 or 16 inch rim and just use the m/t for the track??

One of the more popular reasons shops won't install gears you provide, is because of the liability. How do THEY know that the gears are good?? They won't warranty them, only the labor..
Besides, knowing the fact that 4.10's aren't exactly a "daily driver," variety of gears, and anyone who knows cars a little, knows that people who put them in, tend to beat the snot out of their car.. Therefore, they don't want to have to rebuild your rear diff for free, multiple times...

He'd be lucky if they warrantied the labor for that matter. I don't know of ANY shops in my neck of the woods that would provide any kind of warranty with owner-purchased parts...

Whoever installs your gears you should make sure they use ROYAL PURPLE!! And if I was you I would have them do the AXLE bearing and seals while they are in there if your car has over 30,000 miles on it, otherwise you will be paying them to go back in there. you should just get it down while they are already in there.
