Default Car Wont Stay Running Help

I just got back from Daytona Beach, it was awsome but let me start from the beginning. Before I left for vacation I was driving around in my 2000 mustang gt and started smelling gas really bad so I pulled in my friends driveway since it was closest, after poping the hood I noticed gas spraying all over my engine bay. After getting some of that cleaned up I found it was coming from the main gas line leading into the preasure regulator right before reaching the fuel rails. I thought it might be clogged but I had it towed home and would mess with it when I got back from vacation (since I took my taurus) which leads me to today. I cut the regulator off since I couldnt slide it off and was surprised to find it was clear all the way through with no clog what-so-ever. I put it back on and clamped it in place to prevent anymore "leaks" went to start my car but now it wont stay running it just "putts" out unless I hold my foot on the gas and rev it to about 1100 then it will stay running and sounds fine.. it has done this in the past but normally starts running fine to where I dont have to hold it after a few minutes but I held it for about a half hour and it still "putts" out. I know its not a vacum line I checked those the only things I can think of is there was a clog and its now in the fuel rails preventing enough fuel from reaching the motor but I have an air/fuel gauge and it says im running rich?? another thought is maybe the TPS or the MAF? any thoughts before I start tearing into the fuel rails and such? thanks!

it sounds to me like its your IAC. the same thing happened to me but once i let off the gas it would die. i tried to hold it for about 5 mins and it still died once i took my foot off the gas. you can try cleaning the iac but i just replaced it, its only $40-$50 at autozone or any other local parts store.

Sounds like an IAC issue to me.

Typically your MAF will trip a code.

yes this happened to me once too. mine would run fine when a little throttle was applied, bun as soon as i let off it would shake and sputter and die. i know it was the iac because sometimes before it would die, it would correct itself and rev to about 1100 by itslelf, then die. i replaced it and its been perfect since.

Something like what you're describing happened to me last year. For me it was the MAF. Replaced it and has been perfect since then... didn't trip any codes though. Dan04cobra is right though... usually the MAF should throw up a code if there's something wrong with it.

Put on a new IAC and it fixed the idle problem but anytime I tried to put the peddle down it started to die. We put the old IAC back on and it did the same thing so I dont think there was a problem with the IAC, anytime I go to WOT the car starts to die like its not getting enough fuel. I turned on my wet shot of nitrous (with the nitrous off so it was just adding fuel) and when I went to WOT it was fine so it seems like that extra bit of fuel is helping. Back to my original post fuel was shooting out my line before like it was clogged, could the clog of moved into the rail and thats not letting enough fuel into the rails? If so how can I clean out the rails, the lines are really tough to get off the rails.
