Default boost and blown engine?

How many people if any do you know that have blown their engines with boost and how much hp were they running? I know if you stay around 400 then you're pretty much safe but I just want to make sure.

I knew a guy with an 02 gt with a vortech on it at like 10psi, he had an injector go bad and...boom, he blew the motor. He's running a 100 shot now.

It's just not the amount of boost though that is a contributing factor as seen with the 4psi being offered in the Group buy for the Saleen blowers. Ignition timing, Air Fuel Ratio's and Exhaust Gas Temps are part of the reason a motor may blow. A Dyno tune and having boost gauge, wideband o2 meter and an EGT gauge are good tools for insurance especially should you get into higher boost levels.

So is it pretty safe or should I go ahead and forge the motor with the money I have saved.

Thats a tough one man, it would be really nice to have a forged shortblock right when you get the blower so you could see high boost. But I bet you really want that blower now. It's really your call man, you should be plenty safe if you get a tune with a blower.

For 8 lbs I would have some extra fuel and gauges to monitor what is going on. My last ride was a '93 eagle talon that was making 30psi of boost and probably 500HP at the crank on a 2.0 liter motor, that's 122 cubic inches but i had forged pistons and rods/KNIFE EDGED CRANK, balanced rotating assembly and an O-ringed head. Stock it had 450cc inj's./I had 950cc's in there with a chipped ECU. Wideband o2 meter is very handy is an EGT gauge. It seems the Mustang crowd just wings it or trusts the reflashed chips THAT THE SC VENDORS SUPPLY. Get at least a wideband and don't run leaner than an 11:1 Air fuel ratio on 93 octane. You must have some SC guru's here to asist with tuning and what to watch for with these motors right? mark
