Default 4.6 4v motor... Thinking about buying

What do you guys think? I found a Lincoln Mark 8 4.6 DOHC motor for $1350. Its from a 96 model, Im not sure how many miles. But It comes with wiring harness but no computer. This motor is the same motor used in the 96-98 cobra, just a different intake manifold. Because of the automatic trans used in the Mark 8... Should I get it? An aluminum block, hmmm save 80 pounds. Block can handle 1500hp, just need a stronger rotating assembly to handle above 500hp. What do you guys think?

If you have the money and the time for the project motor, do it. And then document the process for us to learn from your mistakes

i say go for it. it will probly be cheaper then upgrading the 2v. before you put it in i would upgrade the rotating assembly so you can check the motor out on the inside and so you dont have to pull the motor again while its in your car. you can reuse your stock computer just reflash it.

I think I would put a new rotating assembly in it first. I wouldnt want to have to pull the motor again, like you said. I found a computer on ebay for $75.

That year has the series B 4v head not as much low end torque as the 99-01 tumble port heads but the Series B heads can be made to breath better at a high RPM.

I know, but the B series heads but I will get everything that I need. I would eventually probably put some ported tumble port heads and 01 ported cobra intake. OR mabye the FR500 intake.... hmmmm so many possibillitys. The flow rate is pretty similar to the B series heads, so it wouldnt be worth it to just put stock tumble port heads on. The flow rate is so much more on these 4v heads vs a 2v head. Its sad, even with a stage 3 ported 2v head the B series intake ports flow better. But the stage 3 exhaust flows better than a stock 4v. I guess you have been reading up in your sean hyland books.

see I have been pondering this route myself (seen mark VIII motors w/30k miles for $800) but what would it intail. I mean how similiar are the motors? 96-98 I mean would you have to put custom headers on it and do the heads match? I drove a mark VIII once and that thing haulled **** and the whole airbag thing was cool too

Here are the exact same things the Mark 8 and the cobra have.
Same block, same pistons, same rods, same cylinder heads, same exhaust manifolds

The differences are the intake manifold, the crank is a cast piece instead of the cobras forged. I am not sure if the cams are different?? Different color valve covers... Thats it. And different computer. If you wanted to you could bolt your heads on that block, or the 99 cobra heads on that block.

do the earlier 4v's respond to mods similiar to the 99-01's (like what your saying 500 horses)?
