Default Clutch Issues

I have a '99 GT w/ a 5-Speed with 50k miles on it. The problem I have been encountering is that sometimes when I push down on the clutch pedal it feels "grainny". It is tough to describe, just that it isn't smooth. It typically seems to happen if I were to bring the RPMs up high (say 4k+). Then, if you turn the car off and leave it (say to go into a store), it feels smooth again.

Normal driving (i.e. not flooring the car in 1st/2nd) does not cause the problem.

Any ideas before I start taking things apart? [:-]

hmm.... could be something with the TOB... or cable.

When I changed my cable, quadrant, and firewall adjuster my clutch feels choppy until it's warmed up... goofiest damned thing

Yep, someone suggested the throw out bearing might be needing some luvin. It's on my list of things to check out, wondering if there was anything else.

Mine doesn't need to warmup, its fine up until the point that I push the car. Then, like I said, you let it sit, and and it is fine again. I will check it out again, with it getting warmed up ...

that's really odd.

whatever you do, do not buy anything from UPR. They fu**ed up CC plates, and they fu**ed up a clutch cable... so eventually I'm replacing it AGAIN...

seems like your TOB gets hot and then starts to bind a bit

Well, the thing is this problem seemed to start happening when I had my pressure plate & cable replaced like 2 1/2 years ago. The clutch grabs basically on the ground still too.

they just replaced those???

When you do a clutch, you have to replace the flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate all at once... if you don't replace the flywheel you have to resurface it

It's like throwing a set of brake pads on worn out rotors...

TO bearing... I've had mine replaced three times in the last nine months. This last one only starts acting up if I either whomp on it or if I drive in rush hour traffic for too long. Goes away on its own after a few minutes of regular driving.

As I think about it, when I've gotten stuck in bumper-bumper, that causes it too, so seems to be the culprit.

Now, any idea why you've had to change yours 3x? I've had 3 mustangs, and haven't had this problem.
