Shift Kit Heat...

Shift Kit Heat...
I'm getting a shift kit for my car soon. Will this cause my transmission to get even hotter, compared to a stock tranny, when driving or at the drag strip? I was wondering this to see if I need a transmission cooler before long, or if I can wait.

RE: Shift Kit Heat...
You're crazy!! Why would you risk it?? I was able to pick up a generic Tranny cooler for like $40, which works great..
A shift kit will MOST CERTAINLY raise the operating temps of your tranny, ESPECIALLY If you're gunning it a lot.. Besides, even if the shift-kit is mild, it's still great insurance for the life of the tranny...
Don't skimp, it's your investment!!

Just the opposite is true. The shift kit causes less slippage during shifts, which reduces the amount of heat generated. If you are installing a higher-stall converter, then THAT will increase the heat and you should most certainly install an aftermarket cooler. So, to answer the original question, NO a shift kit will NOT make your trans run hotter.

RE: Shift Kit Heat...
I was under the impression that since the tranny sees a TON more pressure from the shift kit, along w/ the additional driveline shock, then it would be run a little hotter, along w/ the fact that tranny is now staying in gear longer (if you have an automatic-shift valve body)..
Personally, I'd still throw one in there.. It's not hard to install, and they're not expensive..

I might as well get a oil cooler just to be safe. I've seen they are measured in GVW's. I'm not sure what that is. Ebay has a 18,000 GVW cooler for $46 and a 28,000 GVW for $70. My car only sees the strip a few times a year. Will the 18,000 GVW do (if anyone even knows what that is).
