Another note on Downshifting for those who don't know:

When downshifting at higher speeds/RPM's, it's ALWAYS BETTER to feather the throttle to RPM match your previous gears, to prevent a ridiculous amount of powertrain/drivetrain shock... If you blip the throttle to 3k, it's always better than just jamming the gears down when the RPM's have dipped significantly..

i did something similar the other night, was shifting from 3rd to 4th i guess, and hit second. scared the **** out of me. even the mgw shifter wont help against a lazy driver i guess. the rev limiter will save your motor, if you did any serious damage you would have notticed it right away. besides its not like you were flooring it through the rev limiter, so it wasnt at the redline for more than a few seconds i assume.

My shifter prevents me from putting it into 1st gear while moving more than 10mph. I found that pretty useful while learning how to drive this beast lol. The 2-3 shift is actually quite easy, you just have to know how to do it. Once the transmission is disengaged, I just nudge the shifter forward very slightly to take it out of gear and quickly push it into 3rd once the shifter is in the neutral position. It works well for me. I find that my mis-shifts are not from making mistakes with the shifter, but not holding in the clutch long enough for the gear to go in. I've downshifted from 5th to 2nd on accident while learning how to drive though. When I miss a gear or mis-shift the transmission seems too just spit the shifter back out into neutral, but it still worries me since the engine over-revs like crazy.

not if you mis-shift like that, because you're mechanically forcing the engine to rev and the limiter can't save you then
