The little thing embedded in your dash that blinks is the Ford factory "passive anti-theft"system that is part of your car. All that is, is a module in your cars computer that is programmed to only start if it recognized a key from your car in it. Factory, your car has 2 keys, Inside the keys is a computer chip with your VIN number programmed into it. The anti theft system will only allow the car to start if it recognizes a key that is programmed with your VIN number in it. The "theft" light flashes letting you know its running behind the scenes so to speak.

yeah i bought a spare key..and i couldnt find my real keys that day..so i tried starting it up and it worked then died instantly lol..so yeah..if u want a spare key that u can drive with ur gonna have to pay 50 bucks at ur local ford dealer..that sucks but its also good in a way as well..but yeah so how do i get a clicker to lock the car without pressing the lock button ?

I was under the impression that the flashing THEFT light was mainly a deterrant telling a potential thief that the car has a functioning alarm, whether or not it actually had one.

If that theft light is more then what everyone else says about the chip in the key then it is a piece of crap. I locked my car up with the remote and the horn beeped like it was an alarm but when i put my hand through the window and unlocked it and opened the door and sat down and moved around in the car like i was crazy nothing happened. definitely not an alarm at all in my case. I have tryed many things to set it off and nothing. I would recommend getting an AUTOPAGE alarm. they seem to be the best. You can get the alarm with the pager. when someone tries to break in your car the alarm goes off and then pages you and shows you on the pager wich door or trunk they are entering. and then it says grab your gun. lol i just threw that part in there. Dont set the sensitivity too high though because if a semi drove past my house or the wind blew hard enough my alarm would go off all day.
Also I know you have a convertible, they have alarms for convertibles, where you can have your top and windows down and if someone sticks their hands past the doors the alarm goes off. Get that thing alarmed.
