exhaust tip question

exhaust tip question
with the stock exhaust whats the longest tip possible to get welded on? would 18" be to long? i measured it and it seems close anyone know for sure? plus it is a 2.5"I.D 3.5" O.D.x 18" going on the stock 2.25 exhaust.
