Default Shift kit questions

Sorry if this is a dum question, but some guy told me that my transmission can't take a shift kit because it is electronic, this sounds wrong to me. Second, if i can get a shift kit, i probably will, do HAVE to get a tranny cooler or is that just for hardcore applications, like a high stall converter, because i heard a shift kit actually prolongs the life of a tranny. Thanks in advance!
