I don't know about you guys, but my 99 GT with 71k miles has absolutely no heat coming from either of those areas...That's really strange. I believe that insulation would be a great idea; maybe some sort of foam or fiberglass insulation fit to the underside of some of the console pieces would help shield the heat a bit....When it comes to the shift **** getting hot, maybe you should get one that's made of something else (even though it probably looks badass).

go to dynamats website( http://www.dynamat.com ) and you can order some stuff from there, they have a whole assortment of stuff that will work. Def not the cheapest, but will help with the heat and deaden out some of the noise also.

Yea I get the heat by the e break and coming from around the regular brake (anyone else get thus?) I always thought it was the fire breathing dragon engine.

I know this is slighty OT, but have you guys noticed that the Heat in our cars is more than ridiculous?? I don't think it's just my car, since my father's Ranger does the same thing.. In the dead of winter, 4 Degrees outside, I start the car up, and in, no kidding, 2 minutes, the heat is cranking out so hot that my eyes melt out of my head.... I made a bet w/ my friend that w/ the windows down, **** on 4, that it would feel like summer.. He lost...
