Default Camming a high mileage engine

I have a '99 GT 4.6 that just hit 110,000 miles. Engine still runs strong, no noises, leaks, compressions good, etc. Do you think it would be ok to put stage 1 cams in a motor with this many miles, or would it be too much stress on the bottom end?

I did this on my camaro with closer to 130,000 miles and it spun a rod bearing [:@]

I wouldn't say the cam was the cause of the Spun rod bearing. I'd say that it was that you had a Camaro.. j/k..

Actually, the only things you'd want to watch out for is valve spring fatigue, since it can induce more valve float (I think that's what it's called) when you reach higher RPM's..

I think you'd be okay.. As long as you're good about upkeep/maintenance...

I think it would be a good idea to get a set of new springs.

Thanks for the advice guys, i didnt even think about the springs.

I think the camaros problem was a driver with the lead foot syndrome

That happens too...

If it were me though, I'd build up a set of heads on the side, and just swap them out on a weekend... That's just because I'm a little psychotic about this stuff.. If I put several Hundred $$'s down to make something work good, I'd rather spend a few more Hundred $$'s, and make it work the best...

Just my $.02... The cams should do fine, as long as you avoid the Redline Region all the time.. I don't think the Stage 1's Lift is enough to really cause any major issues w/ your springs, but always good to be safe..

id consider springs but if you are going w/a cam like mine (a stage one) your prolly shouldnt have anythign to worry about there is a guy on another mustang forum that put the same cam as i have in at 110k and now has 130k w/out springs and has had no problems
