Default Stall converter?

I have a question, are a stall converter and a torque converter the same thing? I have an auto gt with a diablo tune, I've been looking for a torque converter, but have no luck finding one online. Does anyone know where to get one? Also, the reason i was asking about the stall converter is, i want to get comp cams at https://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv8compcam.htm but for the stage III that i want they say i need at least a 2400+ stall converter and 3.73 gears. I have the 3.73 gears, but i have no clue what a stall converter is.

Default RE: Stall converter?

A stall converter is a torque converter, just a different type. A stall converter works by allowing the engine to rev higher before completely engaging to the transmission. This helps by allowing the engine to get higher in the rpm range where it makes more power before having to work at moving the car. The number on the stall converter refers to the rpm at which the converter fully engages. During normal driving you probably wont notice much change with the 2500 converter, but when you gas it, it will rev a little higher before taking off. It will start to move before you get to 2500 rpm's.

The cams you're looking at need a stall converter because they raise the rpm range that the engine makes power, but takes away power in the lower rpm's. I would consider one of the smaller cams if you will be running your car on the street much, the stage 3 will probably kill your low end power, driving in traffic at slow speeds the car will feel like it has no power.

what about the stage II on that page instead of the III or the stage IV here https://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv8cam.htm
