Guys guys... 2000GT4.6 is right. You will be able to run boost on a PI headswapped 4.6.
It is ALL in the tuning, you can't just throw an SC on there, take it out and romp on it. It MUST BE TUNED. Fuel pumps, injectors, timing, etc.

Ok, to start i REALLY dont reccomend dumping the exhuast before the axles. Save your money and either buy a cat back or have some 40's welded in. Dumping the exhuast before the rear end WILL cause you to loss torque. Those tail pipes are there for a reason believe it or not.
Yes a STOCK 4.6 only puts down around 185-190whp. Its not that the 4.6 doesn't respond well to mods, it just doesn't respond as well as say the 5.0 or a 4v. I put down 210whp with a set of bad o2 sensors (found that out afterwards) with only a catless h pipe, cat back and intake. So with only those 3 little mods, i saw a gain of approx. 20whp at the wheels with bad upstream o2's! Kind of curious what i'll put down now.
Now your asking about a dyno tune and shorty headers. In all honesty, If your going to take the time out to do headers and the Emmissions POlice aren't a problem, get long tubes man!! They are one of the most effective mods you can do. And in the dyno tuning, make sure you take your car to a guy who knows his stuff. My NPI buddy from the local mustang club gained 10whp out of a good tune. ALSO look into a PI intake manifold, not much for number gains, but helps your power curve out. NPI intake manifold suck.

Just out of curiousity, why do you want 300whp? I wouldn't be more concerned about 1/4 times and 60 ft's. I know of a local guy who has 98 gt with basic bolt ons pi intake and cams and runs a 13.4 at 99.9. Its all in the 60'.

Ok.. i will be doing the same thing on my 98 gt.. I want to do the heads PI and all that but was wondering if its possible to do that with a supercharger as well... We are not sure if we will be able to run the PI Heads with hte supercharger so what you saying is wit hhte right tuning on it and changing everything out you can do this?? I want hoursepower too. I have the Bassani X-pipe that is awesome and want to do the head swap with supercharger but I am making sure it can be done!!!!!

PI-Performance Improvement
NPI-Non Performance Improvement
300whp is good for 12's with the proper setup. I know of a bunch of guys who are not even over 240whp running low 13's. Now they are semi built automatics, but those are LOW 13's. I'm looking for a mid to high 13's on the same engine setup.

Well, it's safe to say that boost is cheaper. Nitrous is cheaper yet.
Used and even some new superchargers go for around 2-3k and aren't an incredibly difficult of an installation. Many kits come with supporting parts such as fuel injectors and a tune (things you'll definitely need). Also, they are pretty reliable in a daily driver and many kits go safely beyond 300rwhp.
For the best value look into centrifugal type superchargers such as vortech, or pro-charger.
If you must get that kind of power N/A, you may want to look into a used Mach 1, 99/01 Cobra, or 05+ Mustang GT engine swap because you're facing an extremely expensive uphill battle by modding the 96-98 GT engine that will require alot of time and tunes.
If you don't know how to do this installs yourself, I suggest you seek out a good backyard mechanic that knows his stuff. Installation costs can really add up.
