300 REARwhp can't be obtained even with all the bolt-ons available. To get it you will have to at least do a camswap. Either that or just a poweradder will do it. But if you wanna do it NA you will have to have at least a set of cams.

Now 300 at the flywheel would be pretty easy. pretty much all you need is pulleys, chip, mid-pipe, cai, and cat-back. That will put you a tad over 300 hp.

By the way, the industry standards are:

hp = flywheel horsepower
rwhp = rear wheel horsepower
frhp = front wheel horsepower

It's obviously just a misunderstanding, Im sure when referring to a mustang most people will assume by fwhp you meant flywheel, but nevertheless fwhp does infer front wheel

Let me reitterate the question. Because from what Ive seen more HP doesnt necessarily mean faster. What do I need to do to get this GT fast enough to not just totaly be embarassed by The 05 gts?

I might get flamed for this but I do NOT like the new look of the 05. Therefore, keep your 04.

No, im saying that I dammed well better be over 300 horsepower at the flywheel or im gonna be pissed.

My car is completely different that when it was stock. I have no doubts that a stock 05 wont have anything for me.

On a near stock engine, to go the cheapest route and get the best cams possible for a daily driver, go with VT stage 1 cams. They will add 30+ flywheel hp easily, and you wont loose hardly anything down low - and you won't need to worry with changing your valvesprings for them.

Labor shouldn't be much, it depends on which route the shop takes installing them. With the new anderson cam tool I can change a set of 4.6 2v cams in an hour and a half. But, without the tool I'd have to pull the timing cover and that would add a good 2 hours to the job. So...

Labor on VT cams w/out chaning springs would run you about 3 hours labor - most shops are $70/hr so about $210.00 if their smart, if not then it's gonna be about $450.00. It takes a good 4 hours to do the valve springs by the way. The cams would cost you about $550.00 and you will need either a programmer to fix your a/f ratio or get a tune somewhere. If not your gonna have ideling problems.

A cam change is the single biggest "borderline bolt-on" hp increase you can make to your car. But.. if your not doing it yourself and your gonna have to pay for a tune as well - the cost can easily exceed $1,300.00

Hey AirForce2004, don't worry about the 05 gt. I talked to a rep at the ford dealership that had a chance to drive an 05, and he said a mildly modified 99-04 gt has nothing to worry about against a stock 05 gt. I am sure the 05's weight has something to do with the fact that its not much faster than the previous gt. Also, i searched online and i saw a couple websites that stated the 1/4 mile and 0-60 times of the 05 gt and they were exactly the same as 99-04 gts. It might have been type-os but i could beleive it.

Dude don't have buyers regret...there are tons of people that would kill for an 04 mustang gt.
