Ok, I'm not a 4.6 guy so help me out here please. We have a 2000 Crown Victoria (Police Interceptor) 4.6 in the shop right now. It has pretty loud tapping noise coming from the passenger bank, somewhere near the valve cover/intake manifold. We replaced the lifters, and the timing chain tensioner and it still taps loudly. The lifters were obviously bad (lots of play in them) but the tapping is back. Oil is present, and pressure seems to be fine. The car has somewhere around 60,000 miles on it, and I'd imagine it idles alot, since it's a cop car. Any thoughts?

Hmmm check the lash adjusters. LOL. Have you checked the oil for signs of a spun bearing?
