ORIGINAL: 03GT_4.6

If you plan on buying one with high miles and using different engine additives to make it run better, they will be just a temporary fix. To make it run newer you would pretty much rebuild to get it to produce more power or at least be more reliable. If you were going to rebuild it, like others have said, you would be better off puting performance parts after you have decided how you want the car to perform and you've done your research. Also, high mileage just doesn't pertain to just he engine and tranny. You have to think that the suspension, cooling system, axle, steering, interior, fuel system, will all have had around 150K or more miles on them. You could rebuild the engine and tranny but you could be looking into more problems as well.

That's true, i didn't really think about that one too much. I dunno i guess i still have alot to think about. But I just don't know exactly what everything does and how they work together and what not, like are new heads in a car new internals? what else is in the internals? i know what headers are and everything about the intake just don't know really anything INSIDE the motor.....And what would need to be replaced to make it perform better. I have been told that i could get some heads and a new cam. but i dunno if that is all that would need to be replaced during a rebuild to make it run better/more powerful.

Internals are like parts in your rotating assembly and what not, Crank shaft, rods, pistons, etc etc

No matter if you keep the gt or get the GM, your looking at big bucks for internals. If you have the money for em your better off jsut getting em for the car you have now.

Alright, thanks for the help man, I doubt i'll end up doing this now. But, since i don't know much about motors and am on the subject, if i did do it would i just have rebuilt the motor and bought a new cam and stuff to make it run better performance wise? But the rebuild would just give it a better running motor? And do they replace the parts in a rebuild or what? Sorry for all of the questions, just trying to get a decent understanding of all of this.

yes a rebuild is like a "tune-up" lol, theyll change all the gaskets, and parts, and replace them with new oem parts. The rebuild won't make it any better performance wise than a stock whatever it was. Unless you rebuild it with aftermarket parts, and with labor charges and parts charges probably wont happen with 5k

If i were to change it with aftermarket parts how much would the parts alone cost do u have any idea, and what would the parts be? Once again sorry for all the questions, but just tryin to get a better idea of all this.

im not really sure about camaro parts but for an all performance rebuild the parts alone are probably gonna be around 7-8k, plus labor, your probably looking at atleast 11k

If you are gonna go this way, buy an old notch or sn95 5.0. I know they can be had for like like nothing and the motors are relatively easy to bulid and make power with. Think about it.

I slapped a Vortech and whole bunch of other stuff on my 'Stang at 130,000 miles. Been riding it hard for 12,000 miles now and it's still running strong.
