clutch and synchro question
My king cobra clutch is starting to wear down pretty bad. There is about 1" of pedal distance which determines whether the gear is engaged or not. The clutch doesnt slip yet, but a couple of days ago it seems like the shifting got a lot rougher. When I say rough, I mean I have to hold in the clutch longer in order for the gear to go in. Sometimes it just doesn't want to get into gear and it will grind and spit it back out into neutral. Is this a problem with the synchros or will it be fixed once I replace the clutch?

RE: clutch and synchro question
i have a 96 and i thought the clutch was going, i put a new king cobra in and it was fine for a while but i started experiencing the same symptoms as you guys...like having to hold the clutch in longer and grinding and what not, long story short, it ended up being the syncros, and that made life suck for me. if you let the syncros go to long theyll tear up a brand new clutch...like they did to mine...anyway, i paid for a brand new tranny cuz they quoted me like 1100 for the syncro work...my advice, just bend over and take it like a man cuz youre screwed either way.

RE: clutch and synchro question
i was on my second engine at the time, but the two totaled to about 85,000 when my fun machine took a sh*t and died. you can find a used tranny for fairly cheap (mine was under a grand) but the labor is what kills ya. do you race it a lot, the mechanic told me when he was screwing me in the butt that the original owner probly dragged it a lot and had no idea what he was doing.

yea man, its the risk you take when you buy a used muscle car, unfortunately it looks like we learned the hard way..do some work and youll be back out there tearing up imports in no time.

RE: clutch and synchro question
Is it possible to replace only the synchro's? I've been looking online to see if any online catalogs sell them but no luck Replacing the whole transmission over a synchro problem is ridiculous.
Before I try to fix it, I think I'll change the tranny fluid with some royal purple and lucas products. Should I just replace the clutch while I have this done?
