what I need to know is if the mount is one solid piece to tell if it is broken. or otherwords, what does a broken one look like?

yeah the mount is one piece, usually rubber inbetween two pieces of metal. If it's broken, the rubber could be gone, it could be split, the metal could be rusted/cracked. Any number of things. See if you can jack up the trans and if it moves w/o disturbing the crossmember at all, if it all moves together it's good, if not it may be shot

I am trying to find and get rid of the slack in my drivetrain. the car jerks when I get on and off teh throttle. Would a stiffer prothane mount minimize this?

what do you mean jerks.... are you slamming the throttle on and off???

I'd look into your motor mounts first before the tranny mount

you sure it's a mount? I'd look into your U joints!!!!

Could be a loose motor mount too! mine did that after i did my oil pan gasket... didn't tighten them down enough, da lol

But yeah before you go after that one mount which won't really cause that... look around.
