Vortech pulley swap and psi

Vortech pulley swap and psi
I have the stock 3.60 pulley on my car, also anderson pp, have cams and full exhaust, yadda. I think i might be pushing 10# as indicated by my boost gauge (not sure how accurate they are, monitoring manifold pressure at teh tune will tell me) but i really have to stand on it to get there. I am getting retuned on Saturday. My questions is. Can i pulley down to a 3.48 (already have it) and when we tune it, if it produces more than 10#s, just limit the rpms to say, 5750. With a smaller pulley, boost should come on quicker and stronger? What does anyone think? I still have a stock block.
I dont want to get to the tune and realize that i am only pushing 8-9psi when i could have swapped the pulley for a full 10 or so.

RE: Vortech pulley swap and psi
well my intake setup is really ****ed up right now, havent had time to overhaul it, but with the 3.33 pulley i was hitting 10psi with the stock vortech inlet. the 3.48 is probably close to 9, so maybe 11 tops with the power pipe. as for how fast the boost climbs, its all about rpms. i know mine climbs pretty quick in second or third gear, and when my intake didnt suck it was pretty good in 4th. i dont have my gears installed though, and those will definetly help get the rpms up faster. a smaller pulley will see increase in boost, and quicker buildup for sure.

RE: Vortech pulley swap and psi
I just got around to installing a boost gauge last weekend. I have a Vortech V2 and a powerpipe from MPH. My first dyno tune after the s/c yielded 376 rwhp and 376 rwtq. I have full exhaust and long tube headers. At that time I had 3.90 gears.
I then got 4.10's and a Snow meth kit installed and another tune from Kauffman's in PA. Best he could muster was 362 rwhp and 357 rwtq. He said Tim has a magical dyno Anyway, no boost gauge and I never asked how much boost it was making.
I went back to Kauffmans for springs, shocks and struts. I also did a pulley swap because I told Dave I wanted 400 hp. He said to go with the 3.125, which I did. Final result is in my sig. 400+ rwhp and rwtq.
First thing I did when I got the gauge installed was take it on some test runs. Most boost I see is around 11.5 psi. The snow kit is configured to start spraying at 2 psi and that comes on around 3k, yet my guage reads a little less than that.
Anyway, my car has 141,000 miles on it. I did all this work after daily driving it for 131,000. Every time I take it out (weekends mostly), I blast through the gears. I haven't blown up the engine yet which is a testament to the tune I first got at MPH and then at Kauffmans.
I hope that helps. I really don't think you need to limit your rpms. Too much HP or a dogcrap tune will blow up your engine, not too much boost.

I'd have to go out on a limb here and say that as long as the Gauge is from a reputable company, it's hooked up to a good source after the TB, and the hose is in good shape and isn't flexing to much, that you're probably w/ in the boost range your gauge says...
You will definitely find out soon enough though..

gauge and vacumm tubing does make a difference ill admit, went from some generic glow gauge company with ruber vacuum hose, to autometer with plastic nylon tubing, huge difference. it shows boost quicker and the needle doesnt flail around.

I have non cooled with a 3.33 on stock vortech inlet I hit 10 maybe 10 1/2 at 6200rpm.I was talking with my tuner and we were talking about going with a smaller pullie and setting the limter at 5800 rpm he knows I race alot in the street he said it will put me in boost faster and help me make more kills on the street
