you don't really need to wait 500 miles you need to let it go through a few heat cycles

i thought u had to do heat cycles and let the gear brake in for 500 miles and it will be better for the gear in the long run

500 miles is not neccessary. what i did when i first got my gears was drive 30 mins, leave it to rest for 15 mins - that's one cycle, drive another 30 mins and left it to rest for another 15 mins. after that I left my car over night and did two more cycles before I gassed it =D It was just soooooooo hard not to gas it when I first got the gears but even then, I noticed the rpms were noticeably higher which made sense. Shifting became more frequent. 4.10s FTW!

And after you get traction under control.....start saving for axles and a new carrier. I prefer the Eaton.

3 Complete heat cycles is all the gears need.

Drive it normally for 20 mins, give a 20 min cool down, repeat twice more and she's ready for abuse.

I don't know where these tools come up with a 500 mile break in period.

what you are wearing in gently is the bearings. the ring and pinion doesn't take more than a few miles to wear in, it's one pair of gears meshing together that never does anything but rotate in a certain way
