Default Off the line improvements?

I have a 99 GT convertible. It's an automatic....and when I drop it into low 1, it's pretty doggish off the line. I can slam it into 2nd and it takes off really nicely there, but sometimes I have to catch my brothers V6 tiburon because he gets me off the line. Of course, top end of 1st and all of 2nd smokes him, but it's quite disturbing to see him jump out a 1/4 car length right away.

Any suggestions for upgrades that could give me more off the line?

Ease into the throttle. A lot of the cars these days (automatics) are built to where if you mash it off the line it doesnt deliver all the power like you want. A tuner can change all that.

you could try some 4.10s and some sticky drag radials and the tuner.

4.10 and 3200 stall torque converter will take care of your off the line issues...then you will need some drag radials and lower control arms...

Thanks. I'll start with the 4.10's and look into tires and a tuner. any suggestions on where to get a tuner? Is it something a a mechanically challenged person can do? or should I just pay someone to do it?

You can get a tuner with a pre loaded tune that you just plug in under your dash, press a couple of buttons, and your good to go. Anyone can use those kind. Diablosport, Superchips, and Hypertech are some companies with these programmers.

i would suggest the gears, and the tubular rear control arms, and a good sticky tire. i have done all those, and my car certainly gets off the line, just loses on the top end because i have not done too much to the engine yet.

+1

I would also suggest some subframes to keep that twist down and the rear tires planted.
