Yea but no one has yet claimed any advantages of going from 5 to 6 speed. Is it worth the $1500-2800? Can the 6 speeds handle more power than the 5 speeds?
Thank you

Well without even talking about gears, theres still a great advantage. A T56 is stronger and can hold up to more HP and abuse than any other stock Mustang tranny. Also, a 6 speed gives you an extra gear so in turn it will give you better gas mileage assuming you use that gear to save gas. Plus, it gives you an actually useable 5th gear, which unlike in my GT, when I'm in 5th its pretty worthless and I have zero torque. The 6 speed gives you a useable 5th gear with still a good bit of power.

Another advantage is, if you do get a Viper-spec T-56, you can put in a set of rear-end gears, without losing as much of your overdrive. You'll also lose a BIT of your gear in lower gears, but not as much.

What some of you guys are failing to realize is that the Cobra T56 and the Tremec have the same overdrive ratio, as 4.698GT said. Also the T56 is not exactly the strongest trans, unless you get the Viper spec T56. Unfortunately the Viper trans has a very high 1st gear ratio which makes launching the car a pain in the *** and will cost you some off the line quickness. I had a T56 in my SS and quite honestly never used 6th gear unless I was out on a wide open interstate, even on the tollways around here 6th was pretty useless. I think most people who want a 6 speed only want it so they can say they have it, your money would be better spent on other mods that will actually increase performance.

+1. They have a rebuild kit for our 5 speeds that makes it to where they can handle all that power. Tell me this would you rather shift 5 times or 4 times down the strip? Everytime you shift is down time. Thats why pro drag racers use 2-speed powerglides. 6 speed is just for the bragging rights.

yeah they do. they actually have a useable 5th gear for racing. gas mileage will not improve unless you buy the viper t56 as the 03 cobra 6th gear is the same ratio (very similar) to the t45/3650 5th gear. the t56 is stronger than both the t45 and 3650 but it is also heavier do to the extra gear.

Cool guys thanks. I was just curious about costs and actual advantages. It seems that they aren't worth the money which is pretty much what I expected.
