Default tires

Is stepping up from 245/45/17's to 275/40/17 a significant amount more rubber on the road? I have minimal tread left on my 245's right now and I want some new tires so i was thinking about getting some 275's. I dont want anything huge like 315's though. So is it worth it?

I love my 275's and there is a very big difference between 245 and 275... go for it, you wont regret it!

I don't feel like making a new thread, but for rims 18x9, what is the best tire size to go with for all around the car?

I have 255/35/18 on my 96GT, I went to that 1010tires.com site and went with the size that would give me minimal odometer difference.
