Removing camshaft pulley??? Help!

RE: Removing camshaft pulley??? Help!
Have you taken off the timing cover, or are you just trying to do it the easy way by just takign off the valve covers? Because if you do it just by taking the valve covers off there is a special tool that someone sells that you use to keep tension on the chain so you can swap the cams. But just keep it in gear if you have a manual it will turn a little bit, but dont worry the crank and the cams have a keyway in it so they will move together. Also if you plan taking to sprocket off take the timing cover off. Just mark the sprocket on the crank and the cam and the chain link with a greese pencil then you will know were they were. Thats what I did when I did my cam swap.

Impact gun will take it off in a second. I am not sure how you would do it easily without one. There are tools that you can use on the flywheel to prevent it from spining but that involves taking the starter off. There are also stops you can buy and put in one of the spark plug wholes which just stop the piston, that would probably be the best if you dont have an impact gun. Just find a budy with a impact gun. Also if your installing underdrive pulleys, your going to need an impact gun to take the pulley off the Alternator, really no other way around that one.
