Default Installing BBK CAI/Mass Air Meter

The other day when I put in my CAI, I didn't know what to do with that screen that goes between the filter tube and the Mass Air Meter. I ended up deciding that there was no way the unit would keep a tight seal without the rubber around the screen, so I kinda wedged it in place and bolted her up.

Well, since then my car has been idling like crap. The idling will go anywhere between 400 and 900 rpms, back and forth. I also got a CEL. I just had Autozone check my codes, it came back as the Mass Air Meter.

Now a few weeks ago the car was doing the exact same thing, just not as bad, before the CAI. I replaced the air filter and the problem subsided.

So, I think one of two things: The Mass Air Meter is bad, or there is no tight seal around the Mass Air/air filter tube.

What do you guys think? How often to the meters go bad? And should I remove the screen, and make a gasket out of silicone or something to keep a tight seal?

the screen isnt entirely neccessary with a cai, because of the seal...

on a stock setup, it is neccessary for a seal.

either get it sealed or take out the screen.

i have been running a year w/o my screen.

Ok, I think a bead of clear silicone around the edge of the CAI and/or meter would probably do it then. I'll do that, and remove the screen, and replace one bolt that doesn't fit perfectly.

Does it sound right that a bad seal would screw up my idling?

Oh, and BTW, THANK YOU! lol
