bringing it back from the dead.

There's a lot of "stuff" in here about how hard or not practical or useless swapping to a 5.4 is. I tell ya what, I have done it, I'm driving it every day and there's nothing even remotely sane about saying it's not worth it. I've got all the power I want where I want it, it was CAKE to install, no wiring harness changes at all, and it was inexpensive considering what you can spend on a blower and install and still have to downshift to pass.

I've got a fully built motor, HPS intake, reichard adapter plates (until the new HPS 5.4 intake comes out at least), ported heads, and cams and it really does make sick power for a NA motor. Surprised the hell out of an F-body I race light to light every couple'a days.

I've got one of those 5.4 3v in my F-150. I can tell you from personal experience that is has lots of *****. That motor in my GT would be a sh*t-ton of fun. an instant 40+ more HP, about 100 more tq...what's not to like?

if someone made a swap kit (like they do for S-10 to put 350) I would actually consider doing this. The motors aren't that expensive vs. a 4.6

the swap kit is made... sorta. Moreover it's not really needed. There's almost nothing to it without any kitting but soon there will be a full retail kit with everything you'll need, offered by companies to remain nameless for now. The new HPS 5.4 intake is basically a swap kit all by itself.

The intake solution of your choice and an 8bolt flywheel should be sufficient to get it installed on nearly any 4.6 2v car (without longtubes). Really...that's basically all I had to do was buy adapter plates and a flywheel. Everything else has been just bolting on the goodies from my 4.6 and tuning. My combo is much more radical than it needs to be to get the power I'm making too. And yeah... damn it's fast.

I made 279/332 on a mustang dyno running rich and with backed off timing (first time out of the gate... don't wanna abuse it). I've got to pull a full point of fuel out of it along the whole rev range, add timing and then things should be better.

That is a great looking torque curve, r3dn3ck.

Thank you! I like to think of it as a torque LINE. hahah

That's totally untuned. Just wait till I put an hour's worth of tuning at it. Also have a new intake and new LT exhaust coming. Should land in the mid-300's on hp when all is said and done and similar tq.

already did the swap only difference is i did mine with my 02 gt....here is what you'll need:
(NOTE: only if it is a 2V 5.4)
96-98 needs 99-04 of aftermarket k member

use the 4.6 motor mounts and exhaust manifolds as the truck ones are angled differently and you will not be able to use long tube headers only shorties with modifications to the fire wall

the 4.6 wiring harness and ecu will work but you will need a tune and the truck cams are garbage so either get stock PI cams or aftermarket ones

you will have hood clearance issues i have a 3 1/2 inch hood and it rubs the top so 4 inch or better

you'll need to extend the stock fuel line to reach the 5.4 fuel rail and then seal off the return line (on the newer mustangs not sure about yours)

you'll have to modify the powersteering bracket and move slightly the a/c lines....

and lastly extend some wiring harness plugs thats about it....PM if you need any other help

oh yeah and the flywheel if you dont have the funds just get a stocker off of a 99-01 cobra but the problem i ran into with mine is up top in the rpms the power craps out like it bogs...but then again im running 24lb inj and a stock ECU with truck cams so.....change the cams while the motor is out of the car it makes it a lot easier
