Default Aftermarket Cam Install

Do I have to purchase a new cam gear set when I put my Stage 1's in? I heard that the stock gears are actually pressed on instead of bolted on.

I depends on what day they made the car. VT told me I was going to probally need them on mine. but I didnt, but I had no problem getting my money back from them. I would buy them so when you start working on it at least you will have them if you need it. You can always send them back.

I have heard that if you have the romeo heads you have removable cam gears. But if you have the windsor heads then you have the pressed on cam gears and will need new sprockets and bolts. I have a romeo block and they just unbolted and slipped off.

Its not too hard, just time consuming. It took me 14 hours, I know it can be done alot faster but I took my time and it was my first time. The hardest and most time consuming part was changing the valve springs. There were two valve springs right by the mastercylinder that I thought I wasnt going to get swaped. That stressed me out and it took a long time to finally get them out. Other than that, the cam swap is very easy. I didnt degree my cam. I probably could have seen an increase in power if I did that. I just marked the chain and sprocket where it was on the stock cams and swapped them.

I have BBK ceramic long tube headers, BBK catted shorty x-pipe, and flowmasters 40 series cat back exhaust.

I have magniflows and I know that cams in our cars is soley a sound mod and the performance gain might be noticeable and I wasnt sure if my exhaust setup(bbk shorties magniflow o/r X and catback) would even make it to where I'd notice stage 1's

Damn you changed your springs with the heads on the car...screw that! Its a pita with them off i can only imagine how tough it is with the rear ones and everything in the way.

99-00 have pressed on gears and will need cam bolt swap kit.
96-98 romeo have bolt on but are different size bolts then 01-04 bolt on gears which are the same as aftermarket cams...so if you have a 01-04 2V you shouldn't need new bolts for your cams.
