Default Hello all/ PI kit question

Let me first say hello to you all. I've been reading posts the last couple days and there is alot of geat info floating around in here. I already have a 1973 Stang conv (351C, 4spd,9in locikng rear yadda, yadda) but know next to nothing about newer engines and tuning.. I am in the process of getting a 98 GT conv, naturally I will want to upgrade performance and was looking into the PI swap. Sean Hyland has 3 96-98 GT power packages which seems to include all needed parts. Has anyone used one of these or do you have any info on these kits. Also I was considring Crower stage 1 Baha Beast cams, I want to upgrade but not go nuts. I went a little nutty with the 73 and it is a bitch to drive now[:@].

Again Hello and I hope to be around for a while enjoying this site

Unless you are getting a hell of a deal on the 98, I would be looking around for a 99+. With the new 05+ GTs out the prices have fallen, and you don't have to start off with the less powerful NPI engine and then immediatly rebuild it.

Something else to consider is the compression ratio after the PI swap. It will increase enough that the car will now be non blower friendly if you decide to go that route.

There ain't nothin' wrong with gettin the wrenches out! A 98 is a great car! I've looked at the Sean Hyland kits that you're talking about... the 125hp kit is really enticing... but too much coin for me. If you're gonna do the swap, look into porting and cams!

Yea man I think thats sweet you want a 98 to build up. I am doing the same soon, I wanna be a SN95 GT or Cobra with I dont care how many miles and I'm going to build it into a at least 500rwhp machine lol. Imagine that, stock looking 98 GT with 500rwhp...haha I cant wait. But if you just want the best for your money, as some guys said, just go for a already PI car since they are pretty cheap now. But yeh, the idea of building it up is sweet to me.

If your instant plan is to rebuild the entire engine, including a new shortblock, then I would definatly go with a NPI car for the intial cost savings.

If your gonna run stock for awhile and plan on building the car down the road, I would definatly get a PI setup.

The real problem with a NPI setup is boltons are nearly useless. The car just does not respond to mods like the PI cars do. Not to mention that unless you are going to pull the motor and rebuild the shortblock you still have the compression issue to deal with.
