RE: Winter Storage for the Mustang?
was the car completely, and get a cover for it, take it for a nice long drive and FILL the gas tank compltely, then buy a set of foam pads from tirerack.com, DO NOT PUT IT ON JACKSTANDS unless you want it to look even more like an explorer from the suspention sagging, get a battery TENDER, not charger, a tender keeps the battery charged and automatically turns off when the battery is fully charged, also, do not start it unless you plan on driving it a good bit, it is worse to let it sit there and idle then to not start it all

i just leave it as is, park it in my garage all winter, and once a week if theres no snow on the ground back it out, let it idle for a min or 2.. give it a few revs to keep the engine warm for the winter. i also live up north.. (NJ) whatever you do.. good luck.. hate putting her away for the winter

Thanks for the advice, folks - especially regarding not using jackstands, and making sure the gas tank is full before parking it. With the price of gas, a full tank this fall will probably be double next spring when the car is rolled back out onto the pavement (attached is a photo of the Mustang to be stored - freshly painted, too...)

There's no real need to put the car on jackstands, if it's only going to be stored for 3 months..
As for storing it, you should put a FULL TANK of gas, along w/ some fuel stabilizer, or dry gas.. Leaving the car w/ an empty tank means that you increase the chances of having moisture build up in the tank...
Ideally, you should start your car every other week, and let it run for about 20 minutes.. If you can, drive it around the block, let the fluids re-coat all of the moving parts well, and then park it... If you can't do that, then just be ready to listen to some strange noise, and hope your brakes don't corrode real bad... You can always take your rotors off, and store them inside, if you're really worried about it...
Or...
Move to Florida..

i have heard that you can use bounce dryer sheets around the car instead of decon. the mice hate the smell and wont go near it. if you were to use decon a mouse could eat it craw in your car and die [:'(]

Lots of good advice.
Dont worrie about changing the oil before you store it. Make sure you change it when you take it OUT of storage. The oil will accumulate moisture weather its brand new or used oil.

I take the car off full coverage, so its not allowed to go onto the road
and since its bagged securely, opening it and starting it will INCREASE the amount of moisture that gets in/on the car and its parts
