I just got my car back from getting 4.10 gears installed.

Its like a whole different car now. The get up and go is incredible. Granted I stay in 1st gear until about 5mph lol. I took an hour drive to the beach to see how it would hold up. Engine temp was same as before (I used the digital read out to get a more accurate reading). I did use more gas but hey its what you get for making a faster car. As opposed to 17-18mpg i was getting around 14-16 mpg.

When I granny shifted I was in 5th gear at about 35-40mph. That kinda made me sick to my stomach for a second. I took it to 100 mph and it still had room to spare.

The car rears up very nicely. I power shifted into second and the whole rear end just dropped. My advice get the 4.10s... they really do make you feel like your driving a whole different car.

Last bit of advice... granny shift in the rain or you wont move. Or get some NITTO 555Rs.

That's exactly what I (along w/a few others) have been trying to tell people on this forum for the longest! The only thing that might need more clarification would be THAT 555R's suck in the rain!

But for that matter I'm having issues driving my mustang in wet conditions no matter what the tires. Guess I need to be a bit more gentle on the gas.

stock 2v 4.6's dont need 4.10's anything above 3.90 gear ratio is for heavy breathing engines with radical cams that lack low end. 4x4 pickups are good with 4.10's because they have low rpm rock climbing ability, when put into a stock or near stock 2v 4.6 you will get the same effect. will it accelerate good? yes but not any better than 3.73's will.

i had 4.10's on my procharged 98 and hated them. i was turning almost 3000 rpm at 75mph with the .70 overdrive of the 4R70W. the 3.73's are around 2600 at the same mph.

you are over gearing with 4.10's with a near stock 4.6. yes they do rev but have a long stroke too that builds nice torque so 3.73's are fine.

i have a 99 GT vert with the factory 3.08's and it sucks on gas. i'd hate to think what the 4.10's would do

if your engine revs past 7000 rpm's and idles at 1500+ then 4.10's or higher are needed otherwise it's over gearing

Will gears improve 0-60 times? 0-30? Or does it just make the car feel like it has more torque. I guess the question is... do they actually make the car faster, and how much (on a totally stock car going to 4.10's).

I dont see how 4.10 gears on a 99+ GT would be too much. They put me right at the begining of the power curve. The second I shift Im producing power.

Who really cares about gas? Its a sports car. Im sure Cobras and vipers dont really car much about gas... If gas is a concern buy a v-6 stang.

Before I bought my 4.10 gears I researched alot on these forums. There are people on these forums who have had 3.73 and have since then switched to 4.10. I took it to 100mph and was at around 3.5k rpm. That gives me plenty of room to go as fast as I really will never go anyway.

It does make you go faster because you produce power faster.

Anyway, you make the choice. Im happy with my 4.10.
