Default Gear installation

So I've been calling some local shops around to get a price range and one of the dudes said I might need to change the carrier in the rear end if I want to install 4.10 gears... does anyone know anything about this or has changed their gears who might want to give me some insight on this... I'm not sure what he's talking about and I figured if I supplied the ring and pinion w/ an install kit I wouldn't have to get anything else and it would all work out fine w/o having to buy anything else. Let me know what you guys think about this and someone w/ past experiences w/gears tell me what I need to do... thanks in advance.

You don't need anything else unless you want to switch over to a 31 spline carrier and axles, which would be good idea if you are planning on doing alot of drag racing.

If you buy a ford 4.10 gear, sometimes you do have to change the carrier.

What.. Changing gears doesn't require changing carriers.. Only if you are wanting to upgrade to a 31 or more spline axle, then you would need a new one.. Just getting new bearings and all that good stuff and you'll be set.

Stop calling, take your gears and ride to the shops, things will be clarified much faster.

cool... thanks for the tips guys, that helps me out. I probably won't be doing too much drag racing but maybe once a month I'll try getting it to the track after I get my headers, plenum/tb, x-pipe, and cat-back exhaust[8D]
