1999 rear brake
42k on this 99 GT. I am replacing my rear brake pads. The front brakes still have plenty of pad left. Questions
- Is it normal for back brakes to wear faster?
- With previous vehicles I could push the caliper back with a C clamp to make clearance for the new thicker pads. On this vehicle it won't move back. A friend said the parking brake adjusts forward to compensate for the pads thinning. Is there a trick to releasing the parking brake so I can get the clearance for the new pads?
- What type of lubricant to you put on the sliding pins on the caliper with the rubber boots around them
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

RE: 1999 rear brake
Rear calipers pistons need to be rotated as you are trying to compress them. You can rent the tool from an auto parts store to do it. If you try to just press them in you are going to break something.
Rear brakes typically do not wear faster than the fronts. If you leave your parking brake on they will wear fast, if you do brakestands, power brake, torque brake or what ever you call it, that will also wear them out faster.
