alot of racing that goes down in my area is highway. its mostly little turbo srt4's and sti's, type stuff. i was wondering what is good modds for a mustang to alow us to keep up with them on the interstate. i know gears will help us from a dig but them we loose them in top end. i currently have the stock gears and i cant keep up on the interstate now. is there some little things that will give us an advantage?

Gears will still help you from both a dig and a roll. You do not lose top end speed from gears. There is no way your mustang can acclerate past redline with the stock gearset.

Your 3rd/4th/5th will just be more agressive, so you will acclerate faster.

Other than that, everything that you would normally do to go faster applys except for suspension work.

well it i put 4.10's in there is no way i would have the speed the do on there interstate. in 5th if i go past redline im gonna mess somthing up? i have friends running 140-150+ in there racing.

A stock STI does not pull that hard up in the top end, but it will do 150+. Won't a 99-04 GT do that? But who drives that fast anyways?

you need more power before you'd have to worry about redlining 5th.

According to the gear calculator website I was running 158 or so MPH at like 4500-4700 RPM with the 3.73s. Even with the 4.10s, your car will stop acclerating before you run out of gear. AKA, you will simply stop acclerating before you reach redline.

Plain and simple, you will reach a HIGHER max speed with a 3.73 or 4.10 gearset than you will with the stock 3.27/2.73 on a stock or near stock GT, espcially a NPI car.

BTW, "highway racing" is stupid, and its for ricers. Wait till one of you has a blowout at 150+ from not using Z rated tires (even they will blowout). Gonna be in for the ride of your life, or maybe death. Any idiot can leave his car in 5th and floor it, while weaving in and out of minivans full of moms/kids. Hopefully though theres a cop nearby to see em do it.

gears will increase ur "pull" through each gear at every speed. they bring down ur total max speed, but your car doesnt have the power to hit the tranny's max speed in not gear anyways (drag limited) so in reality your current top speed will increase with gears also. whatever the case, if something increases accelleration at one speed, it will do so at all speeds. nobody ever said you lose pull. they say u lose top speed, not top end.

I don't like hammering on my engine is a gear that's less than 1:1 i.e. 5th.

Dude, you would not run out of gear in 5th. You are only reving like 200rpms or so more over a 3.73 and a bit more over stock anyway. I don't know the exact, but it's nothing significant. I mean 4 bangers run those rpms on the e-way everyday and don't break down as a general rule. I big V8 2V motor will be fine with a 4.10
