my old probe was great in the snow here in MN. I even had racing suspension on it and only had a problem when we got like 3 feet of snow one night. That was only cuz my bumper was in the snow. also probes are very, very, very cheap cars to by.

what about 1k? thats my budget. its either 1k worth of new wheel's and no **** winter tires or 1k worth of a ****box that will get me by for 4months. a subaru would be ideal but you cant find many for 1k.

I'd get a 1995 or so Subaru Imprezza. If you look hard you could probably find one for around 2k. It gets decent gas mileage and the full-time AWD will handle much better on snow covered roads. Part-time 4WD like on the Bronco will help you get out if you get stuck (and is good for going off-road in non-winter months), but it's not going to be much better than RWD for actually driving on snow/slush covered roads. I would take a full-time AWD system over part-time 4WD any day for snowy roads.

No matter what you get, put 4 GOOD snow tires on it. Decent snow tires make a HUGE difference. It doesn't matter how many wheels are getting power if none of them can get traction.

Just my opinion...

I have driven a 95 sunfire (manual) for the last couple years in the winter, its been solid. This year I got a mint 89 Buick Regal with 60,000 miles on it.

The old broncs have a good solid drivetrain and are great off road. The trannys have some problems though. Go for it man and splash some mudd on a camaro for me!
