Faster Shifts do not relate to wear on tranny. Actually a faster shift puts less wear on bands or clutches because it is not allowing the band or clutch to slip. Slip equals smooooth. Just like wear on a manual clutch , it comes from engagement. A shift kit allows for higher pressure or fluid flow in the valve body. I would assume a B&M shift kit and Trick Flow fluid with a cooler would however outlast a tuner change.

get a shift kit it will harden up your shifts its also better for your tranny... get a high stall convertor... and a trans cooler....and if you really wanna have fun get some 4:10's to top it off... i have all this done to my AUTO and it does chirp all the gears (as long as i dont have my DR's on)

Code, I have seen you mention those things on more than one occasion. What shift kits and stall converters do you recommend?
Transgo for the shift kit, and TCI or PA for the stall. Stall converters are also known as torque converters so you dont get confused.

ALL torque converters have stall. That is what keeps the motor from stalling at stops, the converter slips a little. The higher the stall the higher you can launch the car but you had better have tires that can handle it or you will fry them. Stock my converter will start to turn the tires at 1500rpm's if aI hold the brake but I believe the stock stall will flash the converter to 1800rpm's when I floor the throttle with just a bit of "brake torque". ORIGINAL: clix813I was wondering is there any thing that i can buy that will give my gt auto faster shifts. i loose so much when it just takes it all the way to redline.
When I read this it is almost like you want the tranny to shift BEFORE redline, is that correct? You don't want that if that is the way I read it. You need gears and more power. Gears will allow the motor to reach redline quicker and power of course will aid that. A torque converter with a stall speed between 2500 and 3000rpm's would be fine but be ready to have a set of slicks. If I "brake torque" my motor to say 1000rpms and floor it the car will spin the 315's to 6200rpm's in about 20ft. and shift to second gear and then the revs drop to nothing. A stall converter is more for the track. I would say a 2500+rpm stall converter and slicks and suspension to aid hooking is worth .5 seconds off your 1/4 mile time. mark

also check out the jegs website, and look under the transmission section for valve bodys for your auto,, you might want to compare the replacement of valve body that will give you good performance for street/strip if you will do both, or you can get a valve body that is more designed for strip racing if thats what your after...good luck on your adventure..

Valve body mods are good but on our 4R70W trannies it is costly with a VB mod costing $300.+ with labor as I checked into it. Only if you are a regular track racer would you need that. A hand held tuner will give tire chirping shifts and is a must for tuning our cars. mark
