whats the difference?

i was looking at the 4 inch cowl hoods and they had a lift off for $250ish and they had one that wasn't that was like $450. is one cheaper than the other for a quality issue or is one more sturdy or whats the deal. thanks.

I believe lift off are strip only. They dont hinge or something. In NJ, they are illegal along with cowls that go to the windshield on the street.

Lift-off hoods can be used on the street too. I ran one for years on my car. The difference is that a bolt on will bolt to all your stock hinges and will latch using all the stock hardware. Lift-off hoods require you to drill holes in the hood and somewhere in the body so you can put pins to keep the hood on. I would go with the bolt on myself, much less chance of it catching a strong wind and flying off or some dumbass decides to mess with your car and pull the pins out and it comes off down the road [:@]

Also as 4.698GT said in some states they are illegal, so check your state laws before buying.

I just got 4" for my 98 GT. It is a bolt on and I love it. I would go with the bolt on.
