Hello All!

I have a bit of a problem with the steering rack. The rack on my 96 Cobra was replaced May 05 due to leaking badly. Since it was replaced I have had a strange squeeking noise come from the front of the car whenever the wheel is moved. I finally got around to diagnosing (Sunday driver) and found the whole steering rack to be moving from side to side on it's mounts. I took to the Ford garage (I know, first mistake) and they wanted to put another rack in under warranty. OK fine.

Today the guy from the Ford dealer calls and says no go on the warranty, it has been 15 months. You have to buy another rack. I about lost my cool! The rack is fine, it is the mounting! Asked if he could fix without replacing the rack. He stated he didnt know how.

What a crock.

So, what do I do to get this rack mounted up solid? I have had advice on another forum to replace the metric bolts with 1/2" bolts. Apparently the bushing are either the wrong size or poor quality.

Is there a place that makes a really good rack bushing? Can this be replaced?
