ive been looking at it like - 3.73 or 4.10 for manuals 4.10 or 4.30 for autos. after what md said about the rpm' differences... or lack there of... im thinkin 4.30's as well. anyone know of any potential issues running a 4.6 at 2800 - 3200 for an extended period of time like an hour +? i doulbt it but tis always better to ask.

If you build you car for the 1/4 mile,, Anyways what rpm our you at on the end of the 1/4? If your building your car for that then find a gear ratio that will have you in top RPM's in a standard tranny 4th gear and an auto just make sure it's not over drive... My self I run 3.73's in the stang 4.88's in the camaro

tire size will change your gear ratio some also dont forget. 5 Speeds good with 3.55's if you have over 500 to 600 horse or more. 3.73's are great with 350 to 450 HP. Auto's no idea for ford's the camaro runs a 2 speed powerglide with transbrake 4,500 stall and 4.88's

found this on http://www.performanceparts.ford.com/faq/faq.asp

1986-95 Mustangs with a 5.0 and a 5-speed work well with 3.55 gears.
1986-95 Mustangs with a 5.0 and an automatic work well with 3.73 gears.
1996-2003 Mustangs with a 4.6 SOHC and a 5-speed work well with 3.73 gears.
1996-2003 Mustangs with a 4.6 SOHC and automatic work well with 4.10 gears.
1996-2001 Mustang Cobras with the 4.6 DOHC/5-speed work well with 3.73s.

these are fords "recommendations"

i hear this little voice in my head saying 4.30 over and over again [sm=smiley15.gif]
