Default Help!!! T45 Issue - Also in General Tech

I just picked up my car, yellow 99 gt 5spd, yesterday. Third gear is super hard to shift into, sometimes not even available. *This is not because I don't know how to shift, even just coasting in neutral, at 25 mph shifting up from second, there is *no* third gear* Once I get into third, 4th and fifth are easy. Shifting back into third from 4th is fine every time. It seems, according to some research, that it is a damaged shift fork? No grinding, just hard shifting. Am I correct in my theory? If that is the problem, how much should I be looking to pay to have it fixed? Does anybody have any experience with this problem? As soon as I have it fixed, I am going to get an aftermarket shifter (steeda tri-ax seems popular).

The car has 37,000 miles and everything is bone stock except for air filter (K&N filtercharger) and I paid just under $11,000 for it, so I have some left for fixing.

Thanks for your help!
Nat

Could be Syncro's or even a shifter, Alot of stock tranny have a hrd time going into 3rd for somereason. After i blew out my T-5 I bought a Tremec TKO-500 5 Speed. And i must say No more problems. I do hear about a shifter thats spring loaded to make hitting 3rd gear much easyer. Ask around

3rd gear is alwase the hardest gear to shift into and it is the gear that most ppl will mess up on. so probably there is something messed up in the way from 2nd to 3rd.

Yeah it sounds like somebody beat the **** out of that poor car while they had it. It's probably a synchro, because a worn synchro will make it very hard to shift into gear. It was probably just ground down to damn near nothin'.

So, I took it to the dealership, and they are fixing the wheel bearing that was bad, but when the tech drove it, no third gear problems. I drove it for the tech, no problems. But when I was driving from work to the dealership, I had the problem with every 2-3 shift! So frustrating!
