Default Sound under car?

When i let my car idle or if im just driving it there is a clanging noise under the drivers door. It sounds like a loose exhaust pipe but i checked it out and nothing is loose. Its reel close to to the tranny to. When i get on it hard it sounds almost like in dragging a piece of metal. What is it?

had the problem on my bbk x pipe. It was the heat sheilds on the cats where they are pressed and welded together. I just drilled a little hole at the edge and put a small nut and bolt on it and it went away. I am gonna weld them back when I have the time.

Got the same thing too.

Can the heat shields be taken off? Will there be issues with regards to too much heat under the car near the cats?

Anyone?

Maybe a throwout bearing. You said it was coming from or near the tranny. If you're an auto than ignore this next comment. Check: Whenever your clutch is engaged(up off your foot) while in neutral, you should should hear the sound. Then once you've established the sound disengage the clutch(push it to the floor), and the sound should go away. If it does then more than likely that's your problem.

I had what I referred to as a clunking noise as well. Mine ended up being the trans. Needless to say I am having it rebuilt and hopefully get it back today. Hope you are more lucky than I am.
