RE: rebuild
If you warm it up gently from cold, regular oil changes and good oil you should get at least 100K miles.
Also will the engine lose power slowly as it ages or will it just die all at once?

RE: rebuild
I said 'at least 100K' so 200K should be attainable with a little good luck.
The engine will slowly deteriorate. You will lose compression as the piston rings wear and the valves get worn. It would go bang if you lose oil pressure or over-rev it.

RE: rebuild
I have 94000 miles on my recently purchased 2001. This conversation is kinda scaring me. It was driven very nicely by the previous owner. Still feels smooth though. I was hoping for a little more mileage. Is it pretty bad for me to drive it hard every once in a while (for 1/4 mile times and 0-60's) at that high of a mileage?

RE: rebuild
Jeez, I'm making everyone paranoid !!
I've modified my previous post. There is no reason why they will not do 200K plus if well looked after.
If it's well looked after and gently warmed up from cold it'll last a long time. Nothing will explode if it's well maintained and not abused barring freak failures.
If the engine is warm and the oil is good driving it hard will not do it any harm.
If you're worried get leak-down test performed to check your compression.
I'll post a message asking what mileage everyone has tomorrow.

RE: rebuild
you should get at least 200k miles easy. thats with decent maintenance and decent highway run miles. these engines will go for miles, and miles, and miles, and miles. i wouldn't be surprised if you pushed 300k. i met a guy this week with an 88 2.3 liter that had 147k miles on the original engine.
